Eeek! Huge! And a vacform? Masochist 😄 This will be interesting.

I admit, masochism is certainly part of it: no details, no fit, no position pens, no … but with some patience a fantastic kit, given a new all new meaning to "modelling"

Humongus kit, with quite a dose of masochism as the previous guys said. Definately in!

This kit is a strange combination of modelling, scratch building, and ... strategy.

It is uttely important NOT to join any of the parts together too soon but to patiently add detail, take measurements, align parts ... and scan pictures on the net. Being impatient and joining two pieces permanently only leads to dispear as in the next step you will definitively need to be able to go to the "inside" of those parts.

In addtion, it helps when you know all the available sizes and sheet thickness of the entire evergreen range by heart.

I work on this BUFF in between other projects, not only to avoid frustration (modelling is about fun, isn't it) but mostly to allow me to think about the next step from a distance and that unhelpful urge to glue things together. I have an "I have all the time in the world" attitude on this one. After all, there was a tiny 10 years in between ordering the kit and receiving it, so a year more or less is not that important anymore.

Being overly ambitious and wanting to construct this thing with the flaps and airbrakes open doesn't help fast progress either

If all goes well I will be able to upload another album in a few weeks time.

@Bryn: I am pretty sure I was NOT thinking when buying this thing. I could just FEEL the roar again of 4 B-52 thundering over the public at Fairford Air Tattoo sometime in the early 1980's.

Upon popular request: an update.

There is progres, although slowly. This is not the kind of kit on puts together like a Tamiya dreamkit; It is closer to a nightmare with wing halves that do not conform at all (one half 2 mm smaller than the other), wheel bays that are positioned wrongly, lack of a cockpit, engines without any detail, etc...

The next problem is that it is huge; Ok, that is also part of the charm but the risk is high that for instance, the fuselage will crack after some time just because of the weight of the wings. Some decent internal structure is needed. In addition, the fuselage shows signs of wharping (or what is the correct name?) and the nose seems incorrect for a H model.

Add to that a need for a massive amount of putty....

Hence, I do continue in between other modelling. The vertical and horizontal tail are finished. The fuselage is finished (except for the nose) but now I need to cut some parts away to install the wings.

Everything together, this kit is a bit madness and work on it has to be limited to small doses to avoid loosing patinece and tossing it completely.

But I will prevail 🙂 🙂

By the way, this build has really sparked my interest in 3D printing, not only for adding detail (like a cockpit) but also for making internal structures to strenghten the thing

my respect and admiration for somebody taking the decision to even try a model like this. looking great si far. I wish you lots of patience and some luck too. looking great so far!

how huge this monster is by the way??

B-52H dimensions are 48,5 m length and 56,4 meters wingspan, which translates to 1 meter and 1,17 meters respectively. That's HUGE. In comparison, my largest model is the resin P2V7 Neptune in 48th, which translates to a wingspan of about 66 cm.

Kits like this demand an absorbent amount of energy but because of that they provide the most satisfaction and pride when they are completed. I think you're wise to take small steps in order to avoid burn out and give yourself enough space to figure out what your next steps will be. Good luck and enjoy the process.
