Greg Baker AuthorThought I'd try something different this time. In 1960, Hergé drew a handful of pages and then ultimately abandoned a story called Tintin and the Thermozero. He abandoned it mainly because it was a plot developed by another cartoonist who went by the pen name "Greg". Sure, it's an abandoned project... but it's six pages of a car chase/crash... by Greg... what could be better, no?
Anyway. Likely the trickiest part of this build was editing the 3D models of the WW Beetle and MG TF 1500 so that I could use them properly. Since nothing more than pencil sketches exists, I figured the best way to approach this project was to print them out in transparent resin, apply a panel wash coat and then leave it at that. Let's see if it works. So far I've succeeded in making a mess. 😄

Greg Baker AuthorOh, Also... for the project base, instead of my usual little wooden boxes, I decided to try to make a mould out of regular hardware store silicone caulking and then pour a 1:1 resin mixture. After a ton of sanding it's looking better. A bit rough... but that seems on brand for this project, right?

Greg Baker AuthorOk... this little side project is done. I have to admit, even for me, this one is a little bit out there. I'm not 100% sure if I'm happy with it or not. I think the fact that it looks unfinished kind of bugs me, but on the other hand... that's the point. It's my attempt at representing an unfinished work through a model. The clear resin is a bit tricky to work with... besides the fact that it's almost invisible under a strong light. It also has a bit of a yellow-ish tinge to it, which I understand is from the UV exposure levels. It has to be "just right" to maintain the truly clear look to it.
It's different, that's for sure.

Greg Baker AuthorDammit! After I was looking over the pages I posted on my blog post (strobez.ca/wp/index...-and-the-thermozero/) I realized that the MG is... of course... a British car. In my model I put Captain Haddock driving on the wrong side!
I wonder how firmly Tintin and the Captain are glued into their seats...

It was going to bug me that Captain Haddock was driving on the wrong side of the car, so I popped the top off the MG, carefully pried both Tintin and Haddock out of their seats, swapped them and got them reseated without actually breaking anything. New pictures of course~
