Sopwith F.1 Camel (Clerget) work in progress

Project: Barker's Camel

Welcome Guido!
I made some progress. Fuselage is ready to completion

Count me in for that! Great work on the cockpit and the wooden plates, Jakub!

This is just insane. When you look at the photos, you completely lose any sense of scale. I've grown somewhat familiar with the high level of your work, but you still manage to surprise me. I catch myself deliberately looking for imperfections — which you'd expect at this scale — but everything just looks flawless. And that knowing the photos already massively magnify everything. 👀

Oh, not sure if I should watch ... may be I want to repaint my Camels after seeing your work 😉
I build them all (normal, Comic, ship) but I have one kit left in stash to be converted in the 1000th Camel one day.
Be very careful with the filigree parts like the tail skid - a slight sideways movement and it's gone.

Bohrmann, you are very kind. But my recipe is very simple. I have little space in the display case, so I have to work slowly so as not to build too many models. This gives me space to devote myself fully to the cleanliness of the work. 😄

Frank, I have studied all your Camels before the start of my build and i'm pretty sure none of them need repainting! Thanks for the advice about the tail skid, I already broke it off too 😄

The fuselage is almost ready to be painted, I've already started painting the wings

Jakub, I really like the event in Křenovice, and unless something unexpected happens, I'll be there. I look forward to seeing you again.

Christ, I snooze for a bit and Jakub has a new show! Taking a belayed seat 👍

Hi Alec and welcome here! It's always nice to have you on board.
1 25 October, 21:20
That's really nice! The longer I watch your construction, the more I want to start building some old biplane.

Thank you mates!
Ludvíku, Spad XIII in czechoslovak service would be nice....
7 November, 16:26
Jakub, the Spad XIII is a very good idea. And while we're on the subject of Spad aircraft, its smaller brother, the Spad VII, also came to mind. They would make a nice pair. I'll definitely think about it.

History is being rewritten! It looks like the Black squadron ("Black Maria", "Black Death", "Black Sheep", "Black Roger" and "Black Prince") will have a new member: "Black Beauty"! 👍
1 18 November, 10:56
At first I thought it was 1/32 scale or so. Then I saw 1/48 and was blown away with how clean and perfect everything is. My vote for model of the year!

Weathering looks great, I particularly like the effect with the oil brusher 👍
To think those pilots ingested all that castor oil 🤢
1 26 November, 14:33
That oil and grease grime from the engine looks amazingly authentic! 👏
Masterful work, Jakube!
1 26 November, 19:32
Great job painting the oil-stained hull. It looks really authentic. 👍
1 26 November, 21:31
To Alec: Yeah, it was hard work. Kind of like the car racers of the early days, when they reached the finish line with their faces splattered with oil and dirt.

The aircraft mechanic deserves a good telling-off! 🙂
After seeing pic 36 I thought you have painted the metal panels at the front in linen, at least a look like from this angle. Going back to pic 16 I found them in aluminium so its all right.
1 27 November, 15:12
No, Frank, the eagle just landed. They'll clean it up for sure. 😄
You are right, pic. 36 is pretty shitty. I uploaded a little bit better one. But it still doesn't capture reality completely accurately. I'm a lousy photographer.
1 28 November, 12:28
No no, your photos looks always good!
In this new pic from different angle one can see the metal shine trough 👍
2 28 November, 12:48
Thank you mates!
I installed the upper wing and started working on the riggings.
