Quite the airplane. I am glad to see your build. The R-1, piloted by Jimmy Doolittle, won the 1932 Thompson Trophy race. He lapped all but one of the competing aircraft, made easy turns and never had to come down and make a tight pylon turn. He also set a new F.A.I. world landplane speed record of 296 mph (476 km/h) in the Shell Speed Dash.

I can't imagine it having too many hours on it, so I totally agree with Ben M. This is what I found out - The Gee Bee Model R (R-1), a famous racer from the 1930s, did not have a recorded total number of flight hours but rather its flights were measured by distance and speed in races. For example, Jimmy Doolittle flew the R-1 to a new world speed record of 296.287 mph on September 3, 1932, and competed in the Thompson Trophy Race on September 5, 1932.
