First round of dot filters and chipping is completed.
Project: Ranger Special Operations Vehicle

To facilitate the painting model, it was built up in subassemblies. I followed the colour sheet for most of the painting.
Engine: The fit is good; Just enough detail; Parts line up.

Taking a seat ๐ช
Looks like a modern version of the SAS Pink Panther.
The chassis looks very good ๐๐ป

Welcome and thank you Jan. Yes, the American version. As far as I could read, it never went past the demonstrator phase.

A large update tonight. The colour callout directs you to paint the entire model in grey. I wanted some variation and taped off certain parts to generate interest.
Next up is a clear coat, detail painting, decals and marrying the body parts to the chassis. I will do a little weathering on the underside of the body before committing to glue.

Ammunition boxes and more ammunition boxes 🙂
I discovered research photographs that shows the actual vehicle in Field Grey. I am going to stick to the German Grey. I am going to darken the rims of the vehicle from Sky Grey to German grey.

Weathered the body parts by dry brushing and applying oil filters.

Thank you Jan. Much appreciated.
A small disaster struck this morning after sealing in the pigments on the underside of the body. I am figuring out a solution. Rehydrating the pigments with Pigment Fixers does not seem to be the answer. I may try Tamiya Clear X-22 and when dry dull it down again with Tamiya Flat Clear XF-86?

It looks lime frosting of the XF-86. I've had this issue when applying too much flat but it.looks like here the pigment was the cause of it. I would trying spraying a medium wet coat of straight mr. Levelling thinner or famous thinner. Just straight thinner, not so much it runs though.

*looks like, not lime! Tamiya, not famous. That's what I get for phone posting with autocorrect...

I think the flat clear wasn't mixed enough, that's why it turned white. John is right, try and dilute it with thinners or alcohol so it flows. If it doesn't work you'll be in for a respray.

Jan, I have had success with just spraying some levelling thinner right over the frosted coat with nothing in it. It seems to wet the frosted flat and makes it "lay down" again as it dries.

excellent job so far villiers - this was the third kit I built during the covid years (after getting back into building kits - the only thing that I could thank the lockdown for) - your detailing is far superior to mine.

John and Jan. Thank you for offering your advise. I was pleasantly surprised to see thee result this morning after hand painting a layer of Tamiya Clear over the effected areas. I believe that my mistake was applying the Tamiya Flat Clear XF-86 in a too thick layer.
Thank you Bobby, much appreciated and I agree with you. Our hobby kept us sane during that period of madness.

To fit the body to the chassis was not pretty and involved a scalpel and files. The fit is not perfect and can probably be attributed to errors on my side.

Looking good ๐๐ป
Fitting the stowage can be a chore, as it needs to be done in a logical matter, and the 'sit' must be natural.
1 27 October, 17:25
Jan Peters made me think a bit, and I expanded on the stowage.
Next will be rockets and machine guns.

First round of dot filters and chipping has been applied. The kit comes without figures. From the Master Box Modern UK Infantrymen Present Day three figures were picked. The only modification was swopping their British helmets out for US helmets.
