10 years ago I finished this Tamiya Spitfire Mk.I. At the time it was my first airplane in 1/48th scale and it has a bit of a special story to it.
In 2014, I purchased a jacket that was sporting the RAF insignia and inscriptions of PR-Q, R6690, Flt John Dundas. For no other reason that I thought it was a cool jacket. When I started looking who John Dundas was, the idea to build a scale model of just about any Spitfire Mk.I started boiling.
Many nights on the internet learned that in fact there existed a decal sheet with exactly these numbers. It is supposed to represent the Spitfire he flew on 13 Aug 1940. Somewhere in March 2015, I started building and without aiming for it, I finished it on the 12 Aug 2015 ... exactly 75 years later... !
And so, I started organising a commemorative trip to the UK to trace back places of interest related to either John Dundas, the Battle of Britain or 609 Squadron.
This is his story: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Dundas_(RAF_officer)
More pictures of the jacket and trip will follow - should dive into my archives first.
