He flew with 272 Squadron and was killed in action flying out of Ta Kali, Malta, in a Bristol Beaufighter VIC, serial number X8031, when his aircraft was shot down by Bf109s into the sea during a strafing attack on an enemy airfield at El Aouina, Tunisia, 14 November 1942
